Thanks so much for your question and for reading Ms. Career Girl! ?It?s funny, I frequently receive career questions like yours right after people graduate from college ?or complete their graduate studies. ?It?s like people have an ?expectations hangover? once they get out there and realize the career path they chose is not exactly what they thought it would be like. ?Then the guilt follows about spending so much money and time on a program that may not have led them to a role they love?
I?m assuming that with a Masters in Psychology you can go on to become a licensed therapist or counselor of some kind? ?If so, I would pursue that route and obtain all the hours/testing you need to become a?licensed therapist. ?As you may know, currently there are ?no legal barriers to becoming a life coach. ?This means that anyone could technically hang a shingle and call themselves a life coach?that doesn?t mean they will be good at it though! ?Your advantage is that ?you?ve already completed the most credible type of education your field offers and people trust it. ?Use that to your advantage in giving your life coaching clients peace of mind while adding a new angle to your practice.
Define your brand:
What makes you and your practice different?
Since you have a background in education, determine if you would be interested in TEACHING others how to become a life coach. ?This could be a whole separate area of your business or a business in itself.
What can you offer to your patients that other therapists cannot? ?(ex: perhaps you will offer group coaching, local workshops, e-products and/or 6-month step-by-step program options)
Who is your perfect client? Write it down in a ?living? document that you check back with frequently (perhaps on your desk top or on a google doc).
?Where do your ideal clients hang out and how can you reach them (online and off)?
Once you define these very?important?branding questions, you can create your online presence around your brand and start creating great online content that will attract your ideal customers to your unique life coaching practice.
10 Steps to Build your Life Coaching Business
Start with a clear goal and then make a plan and process around it. ?For example, if your goal is to bring in $3,000 in revenue per month, how are you going to do it? ?You will need to bill X hours at $Y per hour. ?Or, you will need to sell X e-products at $Y each. ?Perhaps it?s a combination. ?Find out what your numbers are first. ?Then create a coaching program and/or a product that will get you there.
Check out what other successful coaches are doing to get ideas for YOUR business model. ?I highly recommend checking out Michelle Ward, Michael Port?and Christine Hassler.
Teach local classes for free to meet new prospects and test out your products/services.??I highly recommend looking into teaching via?Dabble.co?if it is in your area. This is a great way to see if your group workshops & coaching programs have legs and if people will pay for them. ?It?s also a great way to iron out kinks in your curriculum without much too much risk.
Once you crystallize what your products/services are, create free e-books, white papers or webinars that prospects can download by filling out a short form/submitting their email address. ?Not only are you?giving?these people premium content at no cost, you are answering their questions and therefore indirectly building a relationship with them. ?You are also gathering prospects??contact information so that you can contact them and see if your services are a good fit.
After you create your free content online, make sure your website has clear ?Call to Action? buttons so people can easily see the added value you are giving.? For example you will need several places people can fill out a contact form, get a free coaching session, download a free e-book on living your best life, etc. ?The more places you have to?capture?information and share more about your products/services and brand, the more likely you will be to set yourself up for success.
Update your blog frequently.??When you write blog posts, think about what people might be Googling in order to find you. ?Remember that most people go online to get their questions answered. ?How can your blog posts answer your prospects questions?
List your services in several free local business directories. ?People are always searching for great therapists and/or life coaches. ?They will often start with local directories, especially those in which you have a high rating in (like Yelp).
Make sure you are active and strategic on Twitter. ?Use tools like Tweet Deck to set up searches for people who may ?be looking for your services. ?For example you could set up a search for ?need a life coach? and then respond with an introduction at their time of need. ?I also recommend participating in TweetChats around self-improvement, personal development and wellness ? there are tons!
Guest post on other blogs and make sure your bio and a link back to your site is there. ?The more targeted audiences you can reach the better. ?Offer great advice and be sure to be clear of what your services are in your bio.
Add videos to your website. ?In the field of life coaching, it?s all about trusting the person you?re telling your secrets (and giving your money) to. ?By posting videos that give people added value you are giving them a sampling of what it would be like to work with you. ?Your personality and style will be great for your business and the best way to capture it is to do short videos and post them for?everyone?to see.

In the day in the life of an individual with a disability, whether intellectual or physical, so often, unseen boundaries are created. Maybe a loving, but overprotective caregiver or family member has too much control of the individual's schedule. It may be that the person with special needs has no say in the majority of the decision making about his/her life. Regardless, health needs are important for anyone, whether they have a disability or not, and if an individual with special needs is capable of making decisions about health concerns, then a regular physical fitness routine is something that should be considered to achieve optimal health.
Suggesting Physical Fitness Since those with special needs tend to live less active lifestyles than those without disabilities, it is vital to their overall health to incorporate a physical fitness program into their daily routine. If the individual with special needs has not, or cannot, suggest the incorporation of exercise into his/her life, then it is up to the caregiver or family member to take the responsibility to do so. It may be that the caregiver or family member may be concerned for the safety of the individual with special needs, but as long as the person has been cleared by a medical professional, exercise is appropriate.
Benefits of Exercise Regular participation in exercise contributes to overall improved health. The cardiovascular system seems to benefit the most when a physical fitness regimen is added to daily routine of an individual with disabilities. Increased ability to be a strong contributor to daily activities is another benefit of exercise. In terms of mental health, exercise has been known to diminish the risk of developing depression and/or anxiety, or helping to alleviate symptoms of both if it has already set in. Weight control is certainly an attractive reason to begin an exercise program as well.
Recreation for the Disabled If you are having difficulty finding a place for an individual with special needs to partake in a safe environment that caters to the recreational needs of individuals with disabilities, look no further. A specialized fitness center was created specifically for those looking to partake in a fun, challenging and rewarding recreational atmosphere that has programs created specifically for those with special needs.
The Congress' woes seem endless. No sooner had the party experienced a resounding rebuff in the recent assembly elections than it had to gird its loins to face a series of unprecedented challenges from the Chief of the Army Staff, Gen. V.K. Singh.
If the party and the government thought that the Supreme Court's obiter dicta on the age row involving the general had ended the matter, they were sadly mistaken because the army chief was not about to go quietly into the sunset. Evidently, he does not believe that the military, like children, should be seen and not heard.
So, he has turned on its head all the restraint of his predecessors, who maintained the British tradition of wearing a stiff upper lip. Whether or not Gen. Singh's garrulity is the result of the ubiquitous, 24x7 news channels, which weren't there during the time of the earlier army chiefs, the fact remains that the succession of "revelations" made by him - the offer of a bribe to him or about the obsolescence stalking the armed services in a letter to the prime minister - have shown up the government's seeming incapacity to govern - a charge which has haunted it ever since it let former telecom minister Andimuthu Raja run amok.
This impression may have gained ground because of the perception that neither Prime Minister Manmohan Singh nor Defence Minister A.K. Antony is the most assertive of men. If the age row had to be handled by the judiciary - just as it did with the telecom scandal - the bribery charge remained under wraps till Gen. Singh referred to it in a newspaper interview. A proactive government would have acted much earlier.
Similarly, it would not have been seen to have neglected defence preparedness despite the defence minister's warning in 2010 against the possibility of the country having to wage a two-front war against two nuclear-armed enemies.
The government as well as the general may now express outrage over the leakage of the letter. But where the ordinary citizen is concerned, the real outrage will be over the apparent erosion of the nation's military strength despite a 17 percent hike in the defence budget, especially in view of frequent reports about China's flaunting of muscles on the northeastern border.
The disclosures about a weakened army were all the more embarrassing when the BRICS Summit was being held in New Delhi and Chinese President Hu Jintao was in town. The pride of holding a major international event was marred by the disconcerting leaks even if the VIP guests were impressed by the vibrancy of the Indian media.
Needless to say, the revelations were a godsend for the opposition, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has always projected itself as a champion of military strength and had unilaterally opted to showcase India's nuclear capability in 1998 as soon as it came to power at the centre. Now, all that it has said about the Congress' wimpishness has come true.
There is, therefore, little doubt that the Congress will be very much on the back foot in the coming weeks since nothing hurts a party more than the charge of having been negligent in matters of security. Being accused of corruption is bad enough. But to be remiss where the stiffening of the military muscle is concerned is an unpardonable offence in the eyes of the average person.
Not surprisingly, the government's inveterate adversary, civil society activists led by Anna Hazare, have lost no time in jumping into the fray by siding with the army chief. Earlier, they had decided to resume their anti-corruption agitation with the holding of a token fast in New Delhi and the launching of a jail bharo - fill the jails - campaign in August if no FIRs are filed against 14 union ministers who are corrupt in their view.
Evidently, Team Anna has not been deterred by their inability to organise a similar campaign after the Mumbai fiasco last December when Anna's rally failed to draw a crowd.
However, irrespective of whether the movement fizzles out this time as well, or whether there is a ceasefire between the government and General Singh following Antony's expression of confidence in the three service chiefs, the Congress and the government will continue to be buffeted by allegations of sleaze and slackness.
If the opposition hadn't been in such disarray - the BJP embroiled in factionalism, the regional parties cloistered in their local ghettos, the Left in a limbo - it would have been nearly impossible for the government to get off the mat. Even now, the Congress' seat share in parliament and voting percentage are bound to fall in the next general election unless there are visible signs of an increase in military preparedness and the passage of an effective Lokpal bill to check corruption.
