Online music service Rdio today rolled out revamped versions of its Android and iOS apps that that provide a cleaner, more minimal look and feel inspired by the firm's recent desktop update.
With a new UI comes new features, and iOS and Android users can now discover the possibilities with new side-bar navigation, which appears on the left side of the screen to provide Your Music, Settings, Playlists, and more. Additionally, the infinite scroll option allows continuous exploration by loading more content as users scroll through lists of songs in heavy rotation, top charts, and new releases. Music can be played any time with the Offline Mode setting.
Most notably, a new remote control function now lets users pause, skip, or play a station on another device, from anywhere. By clicking "Play Here Instead," the in-use device will pick up the radio feed right where the laptop left off.
The update replaces the grey homepage that featured a colorless list of icons with large, colorful music thumbnails that tap into Rdio's 18 million songs.
The latest Rdio app (version 2.0 on iOS, version 2.4 for Android) is currently available in the Apple iTunes Store and the Google Play store. Both apps provide free options, but can be upgraded to on-demand and ad-free with an in-app subscription for $14 and $9.99, respectively.
