Frenchie?s Bistro in West Kendall opened shop in early August. I had a great lunch there but my camera malfunctioned and I lost all the pictures. I kept telling myself I would be back to eat the days following that lunch which turned into almost 3 months. I finally made it back and got to try the sandwich that eluded me those months ago, Vive Le Rock. We?ll get to that in a little bit.
The waiter mentions to us while taking our drink order that the Soup of the Day is Broccoli Cheese. The Soup is served in a mini cast iron skillet along with 2 pieces of toasted bread. All the Broccoli Cheese Soup components were there but I found it to have to much cheese (as unbelievable as it may sound for me to say that). I?m not a fan of battling a string of cheese with every spoonful. It did taste very good though.
The All Day Baby are Bacon Wrapped Shrimp & Scallop smothered in their homemade Mango BBQ sauce. Shrimp & Scallop were cooked fine and Bacon was crispy but the x-factor for most folks will be the Mango BBQ Sauce. If you?re lovin? the sauce then you will dig this dish. Not a sauce person? Then I?d suggest you stay away as it is very heavy on sauce. I loved it.
The Wings were recently added to the menu and not available the first time I hit up Frenchie?s. Your options are either Sweet or Tangy and yes, you can do split orders of the sauces (exhibit A below). The Tangy is the more Buffalo/Hot of the two and the sauce I preferred. A mix of the sauces might not be too bad of an idea.
My wife Marcela had the Carlito?s Way sandwich which had Avocado, Tomato, Swiss & Gouda Cheeses on toasted Whole Wheat Bread. Most if not all of the Sandwiches & Burgers are served with these delicious little skinny fries. The Cilantro-Lime Aioii Sauce on it was just plain killer.
Last time I had a burger here I tried the Blue (Roasted Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, Cilantro-Garlic Aioli & Blue Cheese on a 10 oz. Angus Patty). It featured a great deal of flavors that melded well with the patty. This time I figured I would go basic and ordered the Urban (Applewood Smoked Bacon & American Cheese). It?s served with a side of their BBQ sauce if you decide you wanna make it a ?BBQ Burger?. The Burgers are good alone but made excellent with the addition of the other toppings and/or sauces, when ordering have that in mind.
I was so full last time that I didn?t even have time to consider ordering a last minute extra sandwich to try. Vive Le Rock (Churrasco, Marinated Mushrooms & Onions in Garlic Butter topped with Provolone Cheese on a French Baguette),? was on my mind the minute I walked into Frenchie?s and so of course I needed to have one. It was served with Cilantro-Lime Aioii & Spicy Garlic-Aioli Mayo Sauces on the side. The Bread was the right amount of crunchiness and the Steak inside was cooked Medium as I requested. I didn?t feel the Garlic Butter really came through on the Onions or Mushrooms but their natural flavors did. I did find myself from time to time randomly dipping the sandwich into either of the sauces but I could have easily enjoyed it without them. The sauces were great for dipping the fries in too.
I was pretty much done but remembered how great their Waffle was on the last visit. In the meantime, Marcela ordered some roided up Caramel Cappuccino. I didn?t get to try it but included pictures of it so you could see just how great it looked. She thoroughly enjoyed it while we attempted to polish off the Waffle I ordered.
The Do It Again Waffle was my dessert of choice. The desserts are set up to be Crepes but you can upgrade to a Waffle for a couple of bucks. I was in 2 bites before I gave up. I was stuffed but those 2 last bites were important for closure, lol
Frenchie?s Bistro also has an interesting thing going on for you parents with young kids. They also own Goin? Bananas next door which hosts children?s parties and has open hours during the week where your child can be playing in their play attraction while you enjoy your food. Yes, you will be able to enjoy your dinner time.
The menu has a bunch of great sounding dishes on it and I?ve only kinda scratched the surface. I just need to up my time between visits. Keep me posted when you visit in the comments below and let me know what you have.
