Fans are needed to pack the stands when more than 400 athletes come to Wichita Aug. 2-4 for the 43rd annual Special Olympics Kansas State Softball and Golf Tournaments.
The Aug. 2 golf tournament starts at 5 p.m. at the Sierra Hills Golf Club at 13420 E Pawnee. The softball tournament is at Two Rivers Youth Club at 1700 N. Ridge Road. The opening ceremony on Aug. 3 start at 8 a.m. Games run on Saturday until 3 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon also at Two Rivers.
?Many Special Olympics teams do not have family who can travel with them and cheer them on,? said Clint Armistead, director of sports for Special Olympics Kansas in a press release issued on Tuesday. ?Therefore, area residents have a unique opportunity to fill the bleachers and support Special Olympics by being ?Fans in the Stands.??
People are encouraged to pick a time and simply show up.
?See how your presence can impact a team?s performance,? Armistead said.
