Madison Catholic Bishop Robert Morlino, in Rome last week to visit local seminarians studying there, was interviewed by CBS News for a segment on what skills the Catholic Church needs in its next pope.
?We need someone with very strong gifts for doctrine, very strong gifts for spirituality and holiness, and very strong gifts for governance and administration,? Morlino told CBS reporter Allen Pizzey.
Morlino had booked the trip prior to Pope Benedict XVI announcing his retirement, said Brent King, spokesman for the Madison Catholic Diocese.
Morlino attended meetings at Vatican City and visited three diocesan seminarians and?two young diocesan priests?studying there. ?Because he was there, CBS Evening News grabbed him for a story,? King said.
Morlino was not involved in any events related to the outgoing pope and had left Rome before Benedict?s last day on Thursday, King said.
